The Art of Racing in the Rain: Garth Stein
From Goodreads:
“Enzo knows he is different from other dogs: a philosopher with a nearly human soul (and an obsession with opposable thumbs), he has educated himself by watching television extensively, and by listening very closely to the words of his master, Denny Swift, an up-and-coming race car driver.”
Rating: 5/5 (it was amazing)
Kate’s review:
I can’t even put into words how much I loved this book. Before this book, I think I have cried only in a handful of books in my life — and friends in this book I cried at least twice and teared up more times than I could imagine. Maybe this book was exactly what my soul needed, but I don’t know, I just felt such a kindred spirit to this book. The book is narrated by the house dog, Enzo and he reminded me so much of the puggle, which is probably why I cried so much. Not only was this a beautiful story, it also had so many great life lesson quotes. If you are looking for a heartfelt read, this book is for you.

I LOVE that book. Funny thing is I happened on it because it was on the bookshelf in the beach house we were staying at the summer before last. I had just finished the book I was reading on the drive down, and was looking for another to read and found that one on the shelf. I had to finish it within the week since I couldn’t take it home with me.
But that was pretty easy to do.
I think I had it read cover to cover in about 4 days.
It is an amazing book, and you are right about the cry factor.

I picked it up on a whim too! I think that may be part of the magic of the book. Oh I am sure this was the perfect book for a beach day. Jealous.
I LOVE this book. I think about it all the time when I’m wondering what Georgia Belle is thinking. It makes you look at your animals in a completely different way.

Totally! It changed my perspective on a lot of things he does.
