Perks of Being a Wallflower: Stephen Chbosky
From Goodreads:
“Charlie is a freshman. And while he’s not the biggest geek in the school, he is by no means popular. Shy, introspective, intelligent beyond his years yet socially awkward, he is a wallflower, caught between trying to live his life and trying to run from it.”
Rating: 2/5 (it was okay)
Kate’s Review:
I think this is one of those books that you either love it or are “meh” about it. Don’t get me wrong, I think the premise of the book is fantastic, I just did not gel with the main character Charlie. It irked me that he cried on almost every page, sometimes even twice. The author did not change the formula for the crying episodes either. It was always XX happened and I cried. I mean c’mon! I was a huge fan of Sam’s character, I think she is totally rad. The book was okay, and I know that I will probably watch the DVD once it comes out.
Have you read Perks of Being a Wallflower? If so, what did you think of it?

Going to have to add it to my list!!!! I have heard mixed reviews about this book as well.

You’re the second review I’ve read that gave it a 2/5 stars. I wanted to read the book, but now I think I’ll just wait to rent the DVD from Redbox lol
I am so glad I am not the only person in the world who didn’t like this book either. It was underwhelming at best. I wanted so much more out of it because it got such great reviews all over the place and it was just meh. I blogged about it last week and I got tons of people saying how great it was. I was surprised that we had read the same book because it didn’t do anything for me at all. Maybe it was the narrative style? I don’t know, but I was underwhelmed.
I read it freshman year of college and it was my fav! I downloaded it last week to re-read and then see the movie. I hope I still love it hahah

I loved it when I read it! But then again, I also think it may be the time in my life that I read it. I was just starting college and trying to meet new people and was a little angsty. I read the book several times, and there are still parts of it and lines that really stand out to me. I think I might view it differently if I was just reading it for the first time as an adult (like you are lol) but I loved it. I hope the movie is as good as the book is, in my head anyway.

I haven’t read it, but WANT to!
My friend has seen the movie however and said it was fantastic. Waiting for it to popup on Netflix.

I haven’t read it yet, but I have been thinking about it. I know the movie was suppose to be really good (I always like the book better than the movie). I may have to read it now just to see. I am fairly easily entertained and rarely dislike books, so I will probably like it just because I like just about everything…

I totally feel the same about this book. It just didn’t move me and I found Charlie’s character so confusing. I’m glad I’m not the only one.
